The construction fence surrounding the site at the corner of FM 1189 and Eagle Spirit lane has concealed a tremendous amount of construction activity for the past several months. The site has been excavated and shaped for the building pad of Brock ISD’s new elementary school which will serve grades PK through 2. The utilities lines for the building have been installed underground, foundations have been excavated and poured, and the floor slab for the entire school is now in place. In recent days, the assembly of the building’s structural steel frame has arisen above the construction fence, giving passing motorists their first glimpse of the scale of the new school. The first areas to appear are the cafeteria and kitchen, which adjoin the courtyard that leads to the school’s playground. The open floor areas where steel has not yet been set are the 3 classroom wings, one for Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, and one each for first and second grade. The columns for the media center area and administration office, which comprise the heart of the school, are being set in place. The tallest portion of the building – the large volume of the school’s gymnasium, has also been erected. This oversized space will not only serve the elementary school students, but will also provide additional gymnasium space for the District and the Community. With the floor slabs complete, and much of the extensive concrete driveway and parking lot that rings the site in place, the pace of visible progress will accelerate, as the impact of rain on construction activity is diminished. Soon the steel frame for the classroom wings will be complete, and the construction of the exterior walls will begin. The team of Brock ISD, Gallagher Construction and WRA Architects is excited about the rapid progress on what will be a revolutionary new educational environment for the youngest students of Brock ISD.
