The original Walnut Hill Elementary on Midway Road in Dallas sustained major tornado damage in October 2019, rendering the entire building unusable. This project involves converting the existing 55,000 SF elementary school into a Career Institute for grades 9 through 12. The scope includes surgical demolition of some areas, complete renovation of the entire building, and adding 110,000 SF of new construction.
The new Institute will prepare students for careers in Aviation, Automotive Technology, EMT, Firefighting, Culinary Arts, Robotics Labs, Facilities Maintenance, Healthcare, Dental Assisting, Mechatronics, Cybersecurity, Software Development, Building Construction, Carpentry, Welding, Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, and Architecture and Interior Design. The new facility will operate as a satellite campus, serving 1,600 students from five other high schools each day. Opening Fall 2023.
