A CHPS-Designed High Performing Sustainable building using Geothermal Technology, Henrie Elementary serves up to 1,000 students in grades Pre-K through 6. The 114,000 SF project includes includes 50 standard classrooms, an assortment of special-use and multi-function rooms, and many features of the 21st Century learning methods and Sustainable Design such as: natural light in almost all learning spaces; an outdoor learning courtyard between the classroom wings; south facing classrooms allowing optimum heat gain in the winter but with shading devices to block the summer sun; a highly reflective cool roof; stormwater detention ponds; being a two-story school reducing roof area and increasing greenspace; and a computerized Energy Management System. Geothermal HVAC system saves energy using 350 Geothermal wells 300 feet deep.
